Singing and Mending, Winter 2013

This is the first of three paintings I made in Painting I, an art class at Phillips Academy. This was the final art class I took in high school. For the first painting, the assignment was to visit the Addison Gallery of American Art, pick a color painting, and paint it in black and white. I used Singing and Mending by Robert Gwathmey, which can be seen below. The hardest part was mixing all the shades of grey.
